At work the other week, I was drafted in to do some e-mail monitoring. This mainly involves going through the thousands of spam e-mails that get caught in our e-mail filter and releasing any legitimate work-based mail. As I deleted nasty spam in batches of 100, I was able to have a look at some of the [...]

It’s a strange person who chooses to mix Doctor Who with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
But it works quite well.

CNPS | penge @ 08:00, February 24th, 2007.
A year ago I undertook a challenge. A challenge that I now understand to be ridiculously stupid, impossibly frustrating and painfully slow.
I undertook the CNPS challenge. To spot car number plates with consecutive numbers, going from 1 all the way through to 999. After a year of this madness, after some amazing highs and some [...]

Jonathan Goodwin clearly is a mentalist. Technically, he is an escapologist, but I just think he’s a little bit crackers in the head. Still, if a man likes to be tied up and then placed in a potentially life-threatening situation then who am I to argue? Personally I’d prefer to eat a biscuit or two [...]

The Institute for Backup Trauma is a spoof advertisement made to highlight the problems with tape-based backups. It has been put together by a company called LiveVault, who deal with disc-based backups and a whole variety of other online backup solutions, which are allegedly better than tape backups.
Sound boring? Then let me immediately raise your [...]

One of the (many) good things about random outbursts of Engrish is that they do bless us with some absolutely cracking film titles. I mean 90% of Asian cinema might be tat, but it’s hard to resist when it’s got titles like “Knife Wielding Death Master” and “Hungry for Violent Foe” or somesuch.
Accordingly, KarateParty have [...]

When you are next filling your face with a delicious pie, I bet the last thing on your mind is science. Unless you are a scientist, eating a pie at work, in which case you might be thinking of science, but not this particular science that I’m referring to. I am talking about…
The Science of [...]

Imagine… You’ve just upgraded your PC. You’ve got a top processor, gigabytes of RAM, not one but two graphics cards for that extra edge, surround-sound speakers and an enormous monitor to show it all on. Your machine can handle anything you can throw at it.
So why, oh why, would anyone buy PDC World Championship Darts?
Darts? [...]

Witness the majesty of Die Hard recreated in 1920’s-o-vision silent movie style.
Particular amusement to be gained from Mclain’s greeting to Argyle and the message Mclain leaves on Karl’s brothers sweatshirt.
Now I would like a prize for identifying the vilainous music as being pinched from The Three Amigos!

What do you get if you combine a bungee rope, two large sturdy poles, a quad bike and a girl with an obvious mental disorder?
This hugely unsafe stunt.
Don’t try this at home kids. Or at a friends house. Or at the park. Just don’t try it at all, ok?

Us English aren’t really much good at building things any more. The new Wembley stadium is a few years late and ridiculously over budget, the 2012 Olympics Stadium is going to billions of pounds more expensive than planned and the Millennium dome was just a farce of the highest order. Poor Isambard Kingdom Brunel must be spinning in his grave.
Unfortunately, [...]

Charlie Brooker of The Guardian really hates Macs, and he’ll make you want to hate them too. The latest Mitchell & Webb “I’m a PC/I’m a Mac” ads have only amplified his rage.
… when you see the ads, you think, “PCs are a bit rubbish yet ultimately lovable, whereas Macs are just smug, preening tossers.” [...]

On the way into our canteen at work there is a notice for a raffle that’s being held for some good cause. I’m suspecting that no matter how good the cause, this raffle is doomed to failure. Sad, I know, but true. Let me explain.
We all know that entering a raffle is about the prizes. It’s [...]
